Section XIX:
This section highlights the story of two sisters Kate and Martha Goodwin. They talk about Henry’s escape, his effects on the town, and Trescott losing all of his patients.
This chapter is an inset story. It shows how quickly public opinion of Trescott changed from reverence to fear. Martha believes that Trescott deserves to lose his patients.
This section gives a point of view of the townspeople who don’t really have any reason to dislike Trescott other than hearsay.
