Section VIII:
Alek Williams pleads with the judge for more money. Trescott pays Alek five dollars a week, but Alek claims that his family is under such duress with Henry that he needs six. He claims his wife has lost all of her friends, his children can not eat, and that Henry makes noise in his sleep. All of this is causing his family to suffer. They need more money. The judge asks him if more money will still be enough when it does not solve any of the aforementioned problems.
From this section, we learn that Henry has some issues. His appearance is horribly frightening, and Alek claims that his demeanor is also terrifying. This point of view may or may not be taken lightly. Perhaps Alek just wants sympathy and money. Or perhaps his is being truthful. This section is the second time readers are forced to question Henry’s sanity and mental health.
