Section X:

The three burned men are cared for across the street in the house of Judge Hagenthorpe.  Dr. Trescott and Jimmie suffered minor injuries. Henry is declared doomed. The townspeople eagerly await news of Henry’s death.  The newspaper declares Henry dead in the morning, and soon after, Bella Farragut announces that she was engaged to Henry.

In this section, the townspeople root for the three men to recover and be heroes. When Henry dies they canonize him and glorify his memory.
